EC Schedules March 12 for Namutumba Residual Elections
The Electoral Commission has set Thursday, March 12, 2026, for residual local government elections in Namutumba District, including the LCIII Chairperson race in Nabweyo Sub-county and a tie-breaker poll for Ivukula Town Council’s Female Councilor seat. Voters will use Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) machines to ensure transparency.

The Electoral Commission in Namutumba District has scheduled Thursday, March 12, 2026, for residual local government elections to fill key leadership positions in the district.

According to Acting Returning Officer Micah Ofubo, the election for the LCIII Chairperson of Nabweyo Sub-county follows the nullification of the earlier poll due to the death of the incumbent chairperson, Mukoka Muhammad, who had been seeking re-election.

Ofubo announced the schedule at the Electoral Commission offices in Namutumba Town Council, confirming that preparations for the election had been finalized.

Three candidates are contesting the LCIII chairperson seat: Ikoba Nasifu of the Democratic Party (DP), who is also the son of the late Mukoka Muhammad; Mutalya Benard of the National Resistance Movement (NRM); and Kisubi Moses, running as an independent candidate.

The Electoral Commission will deploy Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) machines to enhance transparency and efficiency during voting. Ofubo urged voters, candidates, and their agents to comply with electoral guidelines to ensure a peaceful and credible election.

“Polling will start at 7am and end at 4pm, after which the votes will be tallied at Basoga Nsadhu Memorial Technical Institute,” he said.

In addition to the Nabweyo Sub-county election, the Commission will also conduct a fresh poll in Nawankima Ward for the position of Female Councilor representing Ivukula Town Council.

This re-run follows a tie in the recently concluded elections, where Kisakye Sarah of the NRM and Nakasonyada Sarah each secured an equal number of votes.

Electoral officials say the repeat election will allow voters to break the tie and elect their preferred candidate.

Security personnel will be deployed at polling stations to maintain order, and residents have been urged to participate responsibly.
